Galo day celebrated
YUPIA, Jan 10: The first ever Galo Day was celebrated in a befitting manner here today.
Colourful traditional dances presented by women and cultural troupes were the main attractions of the celebration.
Galo Welfare Society President Papum Pare, Dr. S Ronya highlighted the objectives of the Galo Day celebration in his address.
Both Tana Yayo and Tai Kaye appreciated the Galo Community for organising the first ever Galo day at Yupia and advised to maintain unity among various tribes through this celebration.
The celebration was attended by Doimukh ZPM Tana Yayo and Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Tai Kaye.

Day of Galo Welfare Society (GWS) at Mopin-
During the celebration, the GWS president Dr Emi Rumi declared the 15th October of every year as Nyirmen festival day (also known as recreation day of Galo) in addition to Mopin. This festival has been seen celebrated in Aalo during early 70s.
Among others, MLA Er Tumke Bagra and founder GWS secretary general AT Kulo were present as chief guest and guest of honour on the occasion.
The achievement reports of GWS for 2013 and 2014 were presented by its secretary general Mokir Ori. The audio album produced by Moi Bado and lyrics by Er. Henkar Rokom Bado was released on the day by the Chief Guest. The book authored by Moi Bagra called IDENTITY (an insight into Galo Tribal world) was also released by the guest of honour.

Kaki 11 will meet Nansum in the first match tomorrow while Bogong A will be up against Sigar Village in the second match, informed organizing committee.
19 teams from all over the district are participating in the tournament. The final will be played on January 26.
First weekly from Namsai launched
NAMSAI, Jan 10: Namsai Review, the first English weekly from the district was launched in a glittering function on the occasion of Purvottara Buddha Mahotsava 2015 at Poi Pee Mee Ground, here today.
The weekly newspaper was launched by Minister Agriculture, Horticulture Chowna Mein in presence of Associate Editor Indian Express Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Deputy Commissioner R K Sharma and other prominent personalities. While congratulating the editor of the weekly, the Associate Editor of Indian Express said that it is a good start indeed.
“I am glad to dedicate Namsai’s first newspaper to the people of the district in particular and the state as a whole,” he said.

During the discussion JSM Convenor, Taba Hare expressed discontentment over deletion of Religion Column in ST Application forms and other documents of Government of Arunachal Pradesh without any notification since last few years without which the religious status of an applicant can not be identified and religious census carried out. “We filed application through RTI to know reason behind deletion of the religious column but no reply has been received yet from the authority concerned,” he said.
Earlier, the JSM submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister in the last week. Similar memorandam was also submitted to the Governor and the Chief Minister, the JSM release informed.
PPA for restoring NEC to its earlier model
ITANAGAR, Jan 10: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) said that the North East Council (NEC) with its head office in Shillong, Meghalaya should be restructured and restored to its earlier model where any serving Governor of any State in the Region was Chairman.
Under the current model, any DoNER Minister would automatically become the Chairman of the NEC and functions from Delhi. This way, the functioning of the NEC has been badly affected, PPA president Kahfa Bengia opined in a release.
“NEC is normally considered as Regional Mini Planning Commission and hence, it is more appropriate going back to its earlier model by reappointing any serving Governor of any State in the Region as Chairman of it. In this way, the NEC can be effectively administered retorted, said party CWC chairman Kamen Ringu.
BSG state council meeting held
ITANAGAR, Jan 10: Secretary (Education) R K Mishra called upon all sections of the society to contribute for Scouts and Guides in the state by any means to develop the future citizens of our state.
Chairing the 17th State Council and Executive Committee Meeting of Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG), Arunachal Pradesh unit at state BSG Training Centre, Naharlagun yesterday, Mishra said that scouting and guiding are non formal education based on education psychology.
“The greatest contribution to education in the 20th century was made not by an educationist but by a scholar who founded the scout movement,” he said quoting eminent scholar G B Show.
He also advocated for creating state fund which will be used for the development of young scouts and guides activities in the state.

Khandu inaugurates tourist lodge at Dapo
DAPORIJO, Jan 10: Menle Botom Tourist Lodge located at APP BN Colony near Subansiri River was inaugurated by Minister for Tourism, UD and Art & Culture, Pema Khandu, during his visit to Daporijo on 6th and 7th January 2015.

ITANAGAR, Jan 10: Breaking her overdue silence on her 72 hours hunger strike in protest
against the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and the state government
over APPSCCE 2013-
Appearing firm on her and the Consultative Committee stand, she stated that, “We are ready to talk but not ready to negotiate”, while clearing an air of doubt that Consultative Committee may come to the negotiation table.
Encouraging fellow aspirants, she reassured, “Don’t think Ujum is feeling weak rather I am feeling delighted and encouraged by overwhelming support from the people”. This time we have ample evidences against the commission that they did wrong, if we let this opportunity go, it will not come again” she added.
She made fervent appeal to the people to join hands in the fight against corruption with the aspirants adding that the battle is not only for aspirants but for the future generation. She exhorted that support through social media, SMS and press releases are not enough but people should be present physically at the hunger strike to send a strong message to the authorities.
Meanwhile, the supports are still pouring in from all quarters. All Galo Students Union (AGSU) President Jorik Bagra participated in hunger strike and expressed solidarity to Ujum and aspirants in their fight. Apatani Students Union (ASU) also extended its support to the team. In a release ASU appealed to the people to extend their support to the aspirants.
Meanwhile, in an important development, Ujum Perying late this evening decided to extend the hunger strike for another 24 hours if the state Govt does to take steps to redress their grievances till 10 am tomorrow (Jan 11).
Consultative Committee dismisses CMO clarification
ITANAGAR, Jan 10: Consultative Committee of APPSCCE (M) 2013-
“We flatly make it clear that neither Israel Perme nor any member(s) of the Consultative Committee had met the Chief Minister on November 22, 2014,” the Consultative Committee informed in a release.
A press statement by the CM’s Office today termed misleading, concocted and false the information given by the Consultative Committee that the members of the committee were denied appointment with the Chief Minister. The press statement claimed that there are records that the aggrieved civil service examination aspirants under the banner of the Consultative Committee had met the Chief Minister twice and had placed their grievances.
“Till today, we have met Bamang Tago twice only-
“Till date, we met the Chief Minister once only and that was on September 23, 2014. Prior to this we went up to the CM’s door but we were denied appointment with the CM. We had to go for rally and dharna only to have an appointment with the CM. We also tried to meet the Chief Minister again on November 22, 2014, but we failed.”
“We request the CMO not to mislead the people and let the truth prevail that the CM has been very inaccessible to the aspirants represented by the Consultative Committee. However, we do not comment on whether he is inaccessible to the general public or not,” the Consultative Committee said.
Regarding the offer made by him “to do whatever possible within the framework of laid down rules of the Commission concerned and the Central Government norms”, we will only say that you had your time to turn that “offer” in to “reality” well within the Constitutional jurisdiction.
“It is unfortunate that the CMO is trying to come clean on such petty issues while sidelining the very core issue. Also why is the CMO interested on Israel Perme and Ujum Perying although there were eight members in the team which met the CM on September 23?, queried the Committee.
“If the CMO is really concerned then why not the CMO do come clean on the very issue of question paper leakage incident, questioned the Committee.

You are not alone, BJP says to aspirants

ITANAGAR, Jan10: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Unit today publicly announced that they are with the struggling APPSCCE aspirants in their fight against the Commission and state government.
Expressing solidarity with Ujum Perying and the aspirants, BJP state unit general secretary Dominic Tadar said, “You are not alone, we are with you all”. Tadar along with party members including former minister R K Khirmey joined Ujum in the hunger strike this morning. Later addressing the media persons at Press Club, BJP Chief Spokesperson R K Khirmey reaffirmed his party’s stand on the APPSCCE paper leakage issue and informed that BJP will appraise the Governor on the issue for early redressal. Condemning the Commission over the issue, Khirmey said that youths will have no faith on the Commission if the state’s highest body does such mess.
The BJP further strongly opposed the installation of prepaid meters of electric department saying that Arunahcal is not yet feasible to install prepaid meters.
Coming down heavily upon the state government for its alleged haste in installing prepaid meters in Itanagar, the BJP state unit claimed that the manner the state government is rushing in installation is very confusing. “The metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai have not installed prepaid meters, why the Arunachal Government is in haste to install it, questioned the BJP state unit.

CM expects Centre’s proactive role in green clearances
NEW DELHI, Jan 10: Union Minister of Power & Coal Piyush Goyal assured that the Government of India would leave no stone unturned to support the Arunachal Government towards various development activities initiated by the state government. The Minister also lauded the efforts of the state government to further the Power sector in the state particularly with reference to the activities for streamlining the Hydropower activities with the intention of making Arunachal Pradesh the Powerhouse of the country.
While felicitating Chief Minister Nabam Tuki at the 2nd Economic Times Power Focus Summit at New Delhi Friday evening, Goyal termed Tuki as a distinguished leader who embodies the collective aspirations of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and has been passionately working towards ushering in multifarious development in the Frontier State. While giving an overview of the Hydropower potential of Arunachal Pradesh, Tuki outlined the efforts made by his Government to develop an ecosystem for furthering the Hydropower activities in the State. To this end, he mentioned that the State Government has been giving special focus to introduce Hydropower education and training for the development of skilled manpower in the Hydropower sector.
The Chief Minister expressed concern that a large chunk of public focus has been
only on the negative aspects of Hydropower. Less account has been taken of the benefits
of Hydropower and the knowledge and willingness which exists within the expertise
to anticipate, mitigate and/or compensate for the negative aspects. He observed that

DIG Shanliana unveils comprehensive plan for crime control
PASIGHAT, Jan 10: Deputy Inspector General of Police (Central Range), L.H Shanliana, in his first meeting on Jan 9 with the SPs unveiled a comprehensive plan for crime control.

Site verified for Engineering College at Toru
TORU, Jan 10: Education, Textile and Handicrafts Minister Tapang Taloh and Parliamentary Secretary Education, IPR& Printing Bamang Felix visited the proposed site for establishment of the Engineering College sponsored under Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) at Toru today which is approximately 25 kms away from Itanagar.
After taking stock of the availability of land for the college, the Minister expressed his satisfaction on availability of land donated by local citizens. Taloh lauded the people for coming forward and donated land for establishment of first engineering college under RUSA. Interacting with the local residents of the area, he said that they should feel happy that such premier institute is coming up in their area and such developmental activities must be welcomed with open minds and hearts thereby creating a conducive atmosphere for its successful establishment. Pointing out the benefits of such institute, he said that it will not only bring development in the area but also change the socio and economic conditions of the people.
Addressing the gathering, Parliamentary Secretary Education Bamang Felix said that the college is a great gift for the people of Toru circle and they should give their full cooperation in the establishment of the Engineering College which is totally sponsored project of Govt of India under RUSA. He further said that the proposed area is very suitable for establishment of the college. Felix also assured the local people that the coming up of such premier institute will have life changing effects on the lives of the local people with coming up of many more facilities like job, education, health, banks, water and power supply and others. He also called upon the people to know their responsibilities towards its people and society and instead of making unnecessary unions and associations, constitute development committees to oversee and spearhead the development activities in their respective areas which creates development friendly atmosphere and fulfills the needs of common people.
ZPC Nabam Aka expressed her thankfulness to the Education Minister and Parliamentary Secretary for their cooperation on establishment of such premier institute at Toru. ZPC Aka who is also the local ZPM of Toru circle assured that full cooperation would be given in setting up of the college at Toru.

Preparations on for Aarti Mahotsava

PASIGHAT, Jan 10: Preparations are afoot to conduct first ever Sarvajanik ‘Aarti Mahotsava’ at Komolighat of Siang river near here on the occasion of Makar Sankaranti on January 15.
The organizing committee is working day and night to give a new look to the area by cleaning the riverbank.

Councilor Peyang, who is overseeing the preparation works informed that 30 pundits from different Indian communities have been invited to perform Aarti puja.
Councilor Peyang is optimistic that the Siang river basin at Pasighat will become a place for exchanging ideas and feelings among people of the country besides fostering unity and integrity.
He appealed to all sections of the society irrespective of their caste, creed and religious affiliation to join the festival.
A reception committee has also been constituted with East Siang Deputy Commissioner as chief patron and Municipal councilor Makpak Peyang as organizing secretary for smooth conduct of the festival.
The organizers are expecting participation of around 50,000 people from across the country.
The local people have demanded the local administration to ensure peaceful conduct of the celebration by making elaborate security arrangement during the festival.
‘Longding is a peaceful district’
ITANAGAR, Jan 10: Longding Pumao MLA Thangwang Wangham has said that Longding is a peaceful district and there is no major law and order problem so far. He was reacting to the statement of a student’s union.
When asked about the allegations of improper monitoring of the scheme under MLALAD fund, Wangham, who is also the civil aviation minister, said that schemes are being monitored and implemented properly.
He also urged the students to cooperate with the administration in ILP checking. Regarding alleged exorbitant price rice in essential commodities, the MLA further said that grievances if any should be placed before the District Consumer Forum under Consumer Protection Act.
Meanwhile, the senior Congress leader of Longding Tingjem Wangsu refuted the allegations leveled against Longding Deputy Commissioner by the Longding District Students' Union (LDSU).
